An Open Letter To Every Man Acting Like It's Not A Big Deal And/Or It's A Tough Choice
July 30, 2016
It IS a big deal.
It's not a tough choice.
Oh, and welcome to our world. We've been choosing "the lesser of two evils" since we had the right to choose.
Do you think we liked that our only choices were between two people who could never understand what is important to us? Who would never understand how it felt to not even be allowed to interview for a job because of our gender? Who would never know how it felt to work just as hard as the men around us and take home 3/4 of their paycheck? Who never had to work full-time, care for children, volunteer in the community, keep up a home, and make sure our partner felt supported because he had the bigger income? Who never had to cast a vote and put our children's future in the hands of C students and serial cheaters because they were the "better" option?
Stop acting like this isn't something momentous because "it's Hillary" and she's a "career politician." Nearly every man ever elected has been a career politician, so why is it a bad thing when a woman does it?
Instead of claiming that she lied and cheated her way to this nomination (which no man has EVER done) you should be sitting down with your daughters and saying "See, I told you girls can do anything."
Then stop talking.
Because your daughter might not decide public policy one day but she most likely will decide what nursing home you end up in.
