Full disclosure: I'm not one of those put-your-vodka-in-the-freezer-and-sip-it-straight gals. But I do love a simple Vodka Tonic (with lime juice) or Stacey's Salty Dog (vodka, grapefruit juice, lime juice), or (as my friend Wendy does it) vodka in a grapefruit mimosa.
(Meet Vodka Cow)
I like a vodka that is "there" but doesn't take over and bully the mixers. I don't drink Gin because it always has to be the star of the show whereas vodka is just a great co-conspirator.
If you look at the website for Gilded Age Vodka it is described as "Pure and crisp with a little sweetness up front. Fresh and clean on the finish with a hint of soft vanilla and melon." I agree with the pure and crisp but also get more of a smoky or coffee flavor and almost a peppery finish.
I might not know what I'm talking about. Or I might be tipsy.
Anyway, it's darn good. And it's produced in Eastern Market. And it's a gorgeous bottle; suitable for all sorts of gifting occasions.
Or just a 5 pm cocktail.
I found it at Kroger but it looks like it's available pretty much anywhere throughout Michigan.
