On February 28, 2011, I started a new job as the traffic reporter on the WOMC morning show. Initially, I went back to work full time for one reason – to make money to help pay for imminent college tuition for my kids.
But that quickly changed. Within days, I figured out how lucky I was to get to work with Bobby Mitchell. He’s that rare combination of being an incredibly talented, hilarious perfectionist who is also gracious enough to share the spotlight. I never thought I’d get to work on a morning show again. I never thought I’d get the privilege of working with someone like Bobby. And, I certainly never expected for someone to say, “Hey, I think your name should be on the show, too.”
In these last seven years, I got to reconnect with listeners from my days at WNIC. Thank you for remembering me. I got to meet new people who were nice enough to stop and say “hi” if they saw me out and about. I got to meet and work with one of my favorite radio personalities, Holly Hutton. I got to partner with great advertisers who trusted me to get their message to the people of metro Detroit; good people, making good products, and employing our friends and neighbors.
I didn’t expect it to play out the way it did. It was a great time and I'm proud of our show. We've had our ups and downs, but I’ve never worked with someone as dedicated and tireless as Bobby. He made me want to be better, be funnier, be nicer.
I’ve already heard a few rumors about why I’m no longer on the air. You may have heard some, too. Like most things in life, the truth isn’t nearly as interesting as the gossip. Soooo… in the spirit of upping the entertainment value, I’m throwing a few more rumors out there. Pick the one you like best and feel free to spread it around. I know I plan to.
BTW, some, all, or none of these may be true ; )
Thanks for your kindness and your support! You all are part of the reason that I enjoyed my job so much.
Reasons why Stacey is no longer on WOMC:
She is moving to the Alps to become a ski instructor because if not now, when?
She broke the No Jeans At Work policy too many times.
She wants to spend more time with her son during his last few years of high school and visit her daughter more (though neither of them want this).
She is starting her own business.
Duolingo says she is 100% fluent in French so she’s moving to Paris to see if it’s true.
She wants to expand her website into a Michigan Subscription Box Service and needs more time to travel.
She inadvertently discovered a new drug, Allegia, and is now trying to spend her newfound drug money.
She visited an Escape Room …. and is still trying to escape.
