Detroit may no longer have a Second City Theatre but if you've been to Go Comedy! in Ferndale you know we don't need one. There are tons of talented performers in metro Detroit and many of them have found their way to Go Comedy. We've seen several shows there and always have a good time. We've even taken our kids (but not until they were late teens).
My son has participated in their high school improv camp for the last few summers and I finally managed to talk a friend into joining me and spent the last eight Saturdays in Improv 1 - which was frightening and fun at the same time.
The nice young man pictured is Mitch, who was our instructor. He made us of us feel capable and funny even while we may have been stretched far outside our comfort zones. In fact, he was so encouraging that most of us have signed up for the next class.
If you've ever thought about trying it, I highly recommend Go Comedy! And check out this article about how improv helps people deal with anxiety and depression.
Here's our class after our performance. All still alive! And smiling!
